About My Work

I am an authoritative scholar on politics and political party formation in El Salvador, focusing on the transnational political participation of Salvadoran immigrants in the United States. Over the last decade, I have done extensive research on the conditions created by political corruption in El Salvador and the conditions that drive migrants to leave their country including state-sponsored violence, and lack of state protection for women victims of violence as well as gang violence. In addition, I am a lecturer covering issues affecting immigrant communities from El Salvador living in the United States.During my academic career, I have also worked with grassroots organizations, labor unions,  and community organizing in New York City to address issues affecting immigrant families, including affordable housing and workplace safety. I am a Sociologist, and Labor Educator at the Labor Leadership Initiative at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations- ILR.  I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, a Master of Arts Degree in International Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center and a Master of Arts Degree, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Stony Brook University.
